The Government Can Encourage Good Marriages By Legislation
I watched Fox News and saw two of their programs that mentioned the Pick a partner program which is attempting to decrease the divorce rate of members of the United States Military. According to them a recent Ohio State University study has validated there claim that the program helps cut down on divorces.
I also saw claims on the South Carolina Family Law Blog that claims the divorce rate of military families is going down. If this is true then we need to look at what the military is doing and if the divorce to marriage ratio is also going down. This is because if less individuals are getting married in the first place then it makes sense that the divorce rate would go down.
My proposed solution to the divorce and troubled marriage problem is to have a mandatory engagement period before marriage where the couple has to attend a program like Pick a partner. This period should be long enough to stop the couple from having a hasty marriage but not so long as to encourage cohabitation.

That's how America wants it according to all the data. Marriage even as a state issue was voted to be seen as strictly man/woman, even in Communist Massechussetss.
